AUE RZ-1 A-Wing Interceptor "Green Willow"

Postby Jago » Tue Jan 05, 2016 8:12 pm

The AUE RZ-1 A-Wing known as the Green Willow is one of the fastest starfighters in the Galaxy, being topped only by the incredibly advanced Sienar TIE/D Defender and the MandalMotors Bes’uliik. Seeing as both of those models are purpose-built, modern, military fighters, Jago Pulastra still considers his ancient snubcraft to be amongst the finest examples of just what a talented mechanic can do with a pair of reactors and a chassis. Purchased in 37 ABY at a Surplus Military Auction on Empress Teta, the vessel had been poorly maintained due to a lack of standardized parts. The Serial Number places this particular fighter as one of the first off of the line from Cardooine, and a participant in the Battle of Endor as a member of Green Squadron. Indeed, this RZ-1 served for the rest of the Galactic Civil War and was even briefly involved in the conflicts as late as 27 ABY before being sold off to the Cinnagar PDF.

The Willow is difficult to control and incredibly hard to maintain: design quirks common to the RZ-1. However, Jago Pulastra spent a vast sum of money over the course of nearly two decades to upgrade the A-Wing into becoming a top-of-the-line strike craft, keeping up with and then eventually surpassing even some military-grade snubfighters. The procurement and repair of an I-s4d Solar Ionization Reactor, retrieved after an engagement from a disabled TIE Defender, helped push the Willow far beyond the capacity of any RZ-1 previously seen.

Jago has flown this fighter almost to the neglect of other strike craft for nearly half of his life, only within the past five years relegating it to side-duty due to its age. The fighter has wound up composed of various parts, weapons, and systems meant for other ships, though Jago has painstakingly tried to restore as much of the chassis as possible to how she originally looked, aside from his trademark paint scheme of a Green-And-White Tricolor. It took some effort, but the Willow even had its Fijisi wood interior restored to the condition she was in during the Battle of Endor.

It was the piloting of this particular RZ-1 that was the first hint of Force Sensitivity within Jago: to not only fight but survive in such a poorly-defended and lightly-armed starfighter when he was only a teenager, to say nothing of being able to manage the overly-sensitive controls that required intense focus and discipline from the pilot to avoid a spinout or crash, was a sure sign of enhanced awareness within the young Pulastra. He kept the fighter throughout his tenure as a Jedi and, when not on direct assignment within Dragon Squadron, would often opt for it during calls to duty. Despite its shortcomings and the aggravation that came with trying to find parts and tools to keep the finicky craft flying, Jago has affectionately tended to the Green Willow, still keeping her battle-ready over half-a-century since her creation.
