MC-77 Star Cruiser

The MC-77 Mon Calamari Star Cruiser was a cruiser produced on Dac, Sluis Van, and the Hast Shipyards for the Rebel Alliance and her successor-states. Originally, the class was seen as a luxury liner, not dissimilar from her larger MC-80 cousins. However as war with the Empire waned on, the Rebel Alliance, and later the New Republic, realized a need for a smaller-but-still-powerful warship to combat the likes of the Victory-class Star Destroyers of their enemies. While not as heavily armed as her Victory-class counterpart, the MC-77 held the advantage due to its redundant shield generators and far-better engines. Likewise, the MC-77 was fully capable of atmospheric flight as well as landing on- and taking off from the surface of a planet

While few of this model were converted for war against the Empire (no more than fifty by the end of the First Galactic Civil War), the invasion of the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong brought a new-found desperation to the New Republic and her successor-state, the Galactic Alliance. By the signing of the Sekot Accords, vessels of this class were a common sight in GA fleets.
