He loaded his saucer. One, two, three cookies. He was meant to be watching his weight, but what the hell. It was turning out to be a rough day, in a rough week, and what he was in the process of arranging would be, if discovered, frowned upon.
He wasn't naive enough to think it would go undiscovered for very long, of course. He would be playing on the technicalities, and the lack of actual direct involvement, to avoid any official redress. Many people would know what he had done, unofficially, but what could they do with that? Legally speaking, nothing. Officially, all he had done was entertained an old acquaintance in his offices, discussing un-classified matters in a perfectly intellectual capacity.
Georj did so enjoy such technicalities.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Sugar?"
"Just one, please, Georj."
The Senator nodded in response, and prepared the tea as his guest had requested. He loaded both cups on the tray, and then turned, returning to the seating area, tray in hand.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"So, this new..." He gave a small huff as he bent over to lower himself into his seat. "...acquaintance of yours. Is she really so special to you?"
The older man opposite gave Georj a small frown.
"Please try not to make it sound so sordid. She's something of a talent, that's all. A talent I'm trying to cultivate."
Georj held up a placating hand.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"My apologies, I didn't mean to imply any such thing. Still..." He lifted his cup and saucer, and leaned back into the cushions of the sofa. "To bring her in on this as a first point of call, rather than one of your longer serving lieutenants, is an interesting choice."
The other man smiled at Georj through his silver goatee.
"She's very good at what she does, and her morals are in the right place. And, more than that, I have my reasons to suspect that she has other, shall we say, abilities. Abilities she's not being very open about, but that might make this mission of interest to her."
The Senator lifted his chin, mouth opening in an unvoiced exhalation of comprehension, and then he gave a slow nod.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Hoping to indirectly facilitate another new Knight are we, hmmm?"
The bearded smile grew a little wider.
"Well, I do have some prior experience."
The other man lifted his own tea, taking a deep sip, before looking up at Georj again.
"You'll like her, Georj. I think you'll agree she's worth putting some faith in."
Georj actually gave the other man a flicker of a sombre half-smile, and pondered what, precisely, that statement meant. His guest was well into his eighties, and had been pulling the strings of Galactic politics, whether willingly or otherwise, for longer than even Georj had been.
And Talon Karrde seemed to have lost none of his zeal.
The outer office of Georj Lorrimer's office-suite, populated on this day by a single feminine protocol droid, was modestly decorated. A single large holo-display on the wall presented verdant green, rolling hills and vast, crystal clear lakes beneath an azure sky, various different images all, seemingly, of the same world. The simple furnishings were comfortable yet understated, and two other doors fed off of this room. A set of double doors led into what was clearly the main office, and a small door off to the side led to rooms whose purposes were undisclosed.
As the door opened before her, the protocol droid looked up, canting it's head to the side.

Re: Senate Offices
The droid's head canted right over to the other side, and there was a momentary pause, one that was slightly too long to feel quite natural, before it spoke again.
=Protocol Droid=
::Of course. I do believe you are expected. Please follow me.::
The Protocol droid turned, and walked with that slightly stiff walk common of it's kind over to the double doors. She put her hand on the handle, and pushed the door open, revealing the room inside.
=Protocol Droid=
::Mister Karrde's associate has arrived, Senator.::
Two men occupied the office. One was Talon Karrde, bearded and with long silver hair tied back at the nape of his neck, leaving the other as the Senator. He nodded silently, indicating to the Protocol Droid some kind of acceptance of this fact, and the droid turned to her, gestured inwards, and then left again, leaving her inside with them.
The Senator's office, the same size as the room she had just left, was decorated with a little more opulence than the outer office, but only in so much as the right wall was lined with floor to ceiling, corner to corner recessed bookcases. The wall opposite it had a similarly large, frame-less holo-display as the outer office, though this one seemed to be displaying a live feed of the city beyond the Senate Rotunda, as though it were a transparisteel viewport - an actual viewport would have been impossible, the office being, as it was, within the inner ring of corridors surrounding the convocation chamber. To their right, on the same wall as the doors she had just entered, a small closed door sat, leading into some other room.
The rear wall behind the Senator's desk was sparse, with a few decorative sculptures pinned above a waist-height sideboard. Some kind of drink preparation station sat towards one corner, and a series of closed cupboards ran beneath the counter top. The desk itself was broad, deep, made of a transparisteel top and with two sets of minimalist drawers on either side. The desk was fastidiously clean and tidy, with only a computer terminal and a few items of necessary stationary occupying the surface. A single, high backed chair sat behind the desk, and in front of it, a pair of similarly designed, lower-backed chairs, all in matching dark leathers.
The two men sat in a more casual seating area, closer to both the doors she had entered through and the wall of books than the desk. It consisted of a pair of large sofas in the same leather as the other chairs, set opposite each other, with a small, low coffee table between. Talon Karrde stood now, taking a welcoming step towards Ryra, but just a step, before he turned and indicated the other gentleman.
=Talon Karrde=
"Ryra Kain, allow me to introduce to you Senator Georj Lorrimer of Osarian."
The other man stood, taking a few more steps towards her, and slightly inelegantly offered his hand to her.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"A pleasure, Miss Kain."
He was short for a Human man, though not as short as she, and slightly rotund. His lined face looked unaccustomed to smiling, and his blue eyes peered at her studiously through the large, thick lenses of his spectacles. He wore a suit in a blue-ish grey, of a fine, high quality material, with all the detailing of the work of bespoke manufacture by a master tailor, and yet was somehow too tight and too big at the same time - it was as though the Senator had spent a great deal of money on badly fitting clothes. The tie beneath, in a dull reddish colour, was a little too wide in the knot and the body to be quite fashionable, and had a subtle paisley pattern woven into it.
He turned, and gestured to the seating area.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Would you like tea?"
Though he asked, he did not give her chance to answer, crossing to the drink preparation area, where he begun to busy himself with a teacup, saucer, and tea strainer of some kind.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Milk? Sugar?"

Re: Senate Offices
If the offices weren't what she had thought they would be, the senator most certainly wasn’t either. For all intents and purposes, if she had passed him on the streets (though she doubted senators ever set foot there), the thought that he was a senator would have never crossed her mind.
Ill-fitting clothes that weren’t quite the epitome of fashion, thick spectacles and all—more in line with an accountant in her mind. But most people were never what they appeared to be anyway and she doubted Lorrimer got where he was by looking or acting silly.
Upon offering his hand, Ryra could only give it a brief squeeze and didn’t quite manage her own greeting before he directed her towards the couch and asked her tea preference. Shooting Karrde a brief look accompanied by a raised eyebrow, she settled herself into the couch, the leather squeaking beneath her as it shifted under her weight.
“Oh, uh, no, thank you. Plain tea is fine.”
Normally, she would have winced at the tone, but since the man didn’t seem to mind or even notice, she ignored it. In fact, the whole arrangement was rather informal, which was alright with her, even if it wasn't what she had imagined it to be. Less acting on her part. She could sense Karrde grinning at the whole thing, the old fossil. This experience was getting more and more interesting by the second.

Re: Senate Offices
The Senator nodded absent mindedly in response to her request, and prepared the tea. There was a subtle precision in the way he did it, deliberate movements as the leaves were sealed within the infuser and set within the cup.
Finally, once satisfied, he picked the cup and saucer up, and brought it over to the young woman, handing it to her.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"So, to business, hmm?"
There was a slight exhalation as he lowered himself back into the sofa. He took up his own tea, and leaned back, gracing her with an ever so slight smile, one that still carried a somehow sad quality to it.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"You have, I assume, heard at least some rumours of the events on the Outer Rim? Particularly, on Yavin?"
He looked down at his tea cup.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"I am, of course, bound by my duties as a Senator and as the chair of the Security and Intelligence Council, to keep any extra details, outside of those that have been released in the media, strictly confidential. Though I'm quite sure Talon here, with his experience in information brokering, has been able to uncover plenty of information." He lifted his gaze again, and gave Ryra a look, and almost conspirational look, conveying with a flick of his eyes over the rims of his glasses all the nuances that a less subtle nudge-and-wink might. "Strictly through his own sources, you understand."
Talon sat forward, setting his empty teacup down on the table.
=Talon Karrde=
"In short, Ryra - and I'm going to need you to keep this intel close to your chest - the Yavin four Jedi Praxeum is under siege. A Mandalorian Force in excess of five times their previously estimated total military strength has attacked the world, driven the Alliance's fleet from it's orbit, and blockaded it. This was five days ago."
Georj busied himself with one of the cookies from his saucer, allowing Talon to do the talking.
=Talon Karrde=
"The issue is that, according to the estimates that Senator Lorrimer has received from the Jedi council, the Jedi on that world have exceedingly limited supplies. Food and water they can gather from the rainforest, so that shouldn't be much of a problem, but the equipment they need to fight - blaster gas, ammunition, fuel for their fighters, not to mention supplies for repairs and medical consumables - these are things they're going to run low on very quickly. There's also a concern that their primary defences are completely reliant on their Shield Generator and Ion Cannons remaining hidden and active. If the Mandalorian ground forces manage to take those down, there'll be nothing preventing them from turning the Praxeum into a smoking crater."
Talon glanced at the Senator.
=Talon Karrde=
"Unfortunately, the Galactic Alliance Navy, the only fleet in the Galaxy large enough to completely break the blockade, is currently not permitted to get involved."
Georj pressed his lips tightly together, a thin lipped, grim expression of annoyance.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"The Senate does not yet see this as a matter that we should commit any sizeable military force to. Some think that the vessels lost in the initial battle, in what they see as an effort to defend merely a few dozen Jedi, as too great a cost already, without any further efforts. The fact that a Galactic Alliance military facility has been attacked and usurped by the Mandalorians is being, shall we say, politely overlooked in favour of the view that Yavin four is not strictly a member world, and the Jedi, not strictly a part of the Alliance." He arched his brows, lifting his cup for a sip, speaking over the rim as he swallowed. "I'm working on persuading them otherwise, but it is taking some time."
Talon turned his wizened gaze to the young woman now.
=Talon Karrde=
"In the meantime, the Jedi on Yavin will need some support. Luke Skywalker is a good friend of mine, as are a number of other Jedi. And I look after my friends." He gave her a small smile. "I thought, perhaps, you might be interested in a little high-risk smuggling. For a good cause."
Finally, once satisfied, he picked the cup and saucer up, and brought it over to the young woman, handing it to her.

Re: Senate Offices
The tea in her hands was nigh on forgotten as Lorrimer and Karrde spoke. Halfway through, Ryra set the cup on the table in front of her and rested her elbows on her knees, absorbing the information. She could feel a grimace beginning to form on her face and perhaps a bit of indignation growing in the pit of her stomach.
She knew there were a lot of people who believed the Jedi were the source of everyone's problems. She also suspected that was one reason why the Alliance was choosing to let the planet burn, a risk to their fleet or not. However, she wondered exactly how much of that thought stemmed from her own biases.
"If history's anything to go by, there've been plenty of cases when the Alliance stepped in to help planets who weren’t ‘strictly member worlds’.” She turned to Lorrimer. "I don't claim to know much about it, but there are non-military personnel on Yavin too, right? People from Alliance controlled worlds? Have they considered them amongst those ‘few dozen Jedi’?”
Ryra’s gaze targeted Karrde this time.
”I can run it, but I’ll need maximum crew for the Slopewing. Right now, she's operating with minimum crew, even with the astromech. Normally, it wouldn’t be a problem, but with the blockade being as big as you say and Mandalorian to boot..."
She shook her head.
”If you can provide me with some men, getting through shouldn’t be a problem if we’re operating at maximum efficiency.”
She picked her teacup back up and cupped it in her now cold hands, grateful to feel them warming back up. She spoke again before taking a sip.
"Are there other ships running this with me, or will this be a party of one? And what's our timetable? Besides..." She couldn't help but smirk. 'It's for a good cause."

Re: Senate Offices
Georj gave her a nod, his lips twitching in something that was almost a smile.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Of course, you aren't wrong. There are several non-combatants still on Yavin. Unfortunately, the most the Senate seems willing to commit to at the minute is diplomatic pressure. Not something I imagine Mand'alor Intalbo is likely to feel terribly intimidated by."
There was a twitch in the Senator's cheek, a momentary flash of disdain for the situation, before he pressed on.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Thankfully, we estimate we have some time to work with. I have reason to believe that other efforts to aid the Yavin Jedi are being made, which if successful - and I have no doubt they will be - will buy the Jedi more time. But the sooner we can get them our supplies, the better."
He peered at her over his glasses.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"This is your mission to undertake. Thereby it'd be your call on the timing."
Talon nodded in response to what Georj said, tapping a finger thoughtfully on the arm of his chair.
=Talon Karrde=
"I'll have Aves put together the additions to your crew, too. People we can trust. Obviously, no Alliance personnel. But for now, we've decided the best way to run this is one ship at a time. Stealth and speed is going to be the most effective method here."
Georj's hand came up, slipping the glasses from his face. He begun to polish the lenses with the fat end of his tie.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Talon and I have gathered the most detailed star charts that can be gathered of the region, which will be part of the briefing package you'll be given later. Any other intelligence you need, talk to Talon. I'm sure that he'll find it most forthcoming."

Ryra nodded. ”There’s no point in putting it off. I’ll get the Slopewing ready and everyone up to speed. She glanced at Karrde. ”On a need-to-know basis right now, of course. That’s not to say I don’t trust my people, I do. But like you said, given the nature of this little venture, I’m sure we’d all feel better once off-world.”
She went ahead and drained her cup, setting it down on the table once again. ”I think have everything I need right now. I’ll wait for the info packet and the cargo. With luck, this should all go smoothly enough.”

Re: Senate Offices
Talon smiled broadly, clapping his hands together in a momentary display of uncharacteristic enthusiasm.
=Talon Karrde=
"Wonderful! Then I suppose it's time for you and I to take our leave, Ryra. The Senator has plenty to be getting on with, I'm sure."
He stood, taking a step towards Georj, extending a hand. Georj stood as well, and took Talon's hand, shaking it. He spoke with his usual soft, understated tones.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Good to see you as always, Talon."
=Talon Karrde=
"Likewise, Georj, likewise."
Georj turned now to Ryra, and extended his hand to her.
=Georj Lorrimer=
"Force be with you, Ryra Kain. I hope I get the chance to... ah... not work with you again."
There was a hint of another smile, though it didn't quite make it as high as the Senator's tired looking eyes, magnified both in their size and the hint of sadness in them by his thick lenses.
